The AAC
Athletic Academic Center (AAC)
Located in the heart of campus, the AAC is an integral part of the life of Bobcat student-athletes and has a vast amount of services and assistance available. The AAC is structured after the principles of the NCAA CHAMPS / Life Skills Program which is created to provide student-athletes with five basic components, Academic Excellence, Athletic Excellence, Community Service, Career Development and Personal Development.
The AAC, which is open six days a week (Sunday-Friday), houses a state-of-the-art computer lab, a learning lab, areas for both individual and group study, and offices for the AAC staff. Furthermore, plans are underway for a new Academic Hall of Honor that will showcase Texas State student-athletes' academic achievements and honors.
Now a component of Texas State's University College under the direction of Dr. Ron Brown, the AAC underwent a complete restructuring this summer.
The AAC is led by the Director of the Athletic Academic Center with the help of the Associate Director, two Student Development Specialists, numerous tutors and a front desk staff which consists of Texas state students. The AAC staff, in conjunction with the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance, strives to educate the student-athletes about the numerous NCAA rules and regulations while monitoring the student-athletes progress for continuing eligibility.
Each student-athlete works with their College (Major) Advisor to make sure that they are enrolled in the correct classes to graduate. The AAC staff verifies the classes to ensure that the student-athlete is working towards their degree, making yearly satisfactory progress and meeting GPA requirements.
