Bobcat Legacy Campaign VISION FOR BOBCAT STUDENT-ATHLETES
A university excels in its educational mission when it is able to nurture the whole person. Beyond accomplishing educational objectives in the classroom, there are many exciting opportunities and experiences that are available to student-athletes at Texas State. Intercollegiate athletics, like many other extracurricular activities, have long been an important part of the college experience. For both participants and spectators, athletics serves to bridge the gap between student and athlete. Without intercollegiate athletics, the opportunity to attend college would not be a reality for many young men and women. Intercollegiate Athletics at Texas State is the institution's "front porch", not the most important part of the structure, but often the most visible. Texas State Athletics is in the midst of an exciting transformation. From a facility standpoint, we have taken the first step with over 18 million dollars of capital projects and improvements over the last two years. A primary objective of this comprehensive renovation project has been the assurance that Texas State is able to recruit the highest quality of student-athletes to its athletics program. For example, a high school senior who is a prospective student-athlete is allowed a total of five (5) official visits to colleges and universities across the nation. While on the visit, the student-athlete will meet the coaches, team members, athletic staff and university faculty and administration. They will be given comprehensive tours of the campus and community, and they will tour facilities to see where they will compete. One of the essential aspects of a successful recruiting visit is to be able to show the student-athlete that they will have the best available resources for success. This means everything from structured study halls to a modernized weight training room to a top-notch locker room. If Texas State can present first-class facilities to its prospective student-athletes, then they can attract the best and brightest talents. By attracting the best student-athletes, our entire Texas State family and the San Marcos community are winners. Facilities are vital and one of the most important aspects of an intercollegiate athletics program. Without appealing facilities, it is increasingly difficult to compete for top recruits, attract NCAA or regional championship events, and generate strong private and corporate support. We hope you will consider a contribution to these important Texas State Athletic Facility Enhancements. As outlined in the pages to the right, facilities are the lifeblood of college athletics. A significant time gap of almost two decades has occurred without any substantial athletic facility upkeep or renovations prior to 2002. It is time for our department to continue to send the message to our supporters, prospects, coaches, and student-athletes that we are committed to a quality, first-rate athletics program. Thank you very, very much for your consideration.
