Beginning his second year as Texas State University's Assistant Director of Athletics for Academics and Director of Academic Student Services is Chris Elrod. In his position, Elrod is responsible for coordinating academic programs and the academic progress of the university's 400 student-athletes.

Elrod joined the Texas State staff from the University of Alabama where he was the Academic Program Advisor for the Crimson Tide football team. He has also served as an academic counselor in the athletic department at the University of Texas.

While at Alabama, Elrod was responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive academic support program for the Crimson Tide's football student-athletes. Among his responsibilities was monitoring student-athletes' academic progress, creating a graduation progression plan and counseling student-athletes in regards to course selection. He also planned, scheduled and supervised a study table program for Alabama student-athletes.

Prior to joining the Alabama staff in 2004, Elrod was the Academic Counselor for Football at Texas for three years. He counseled student-athletes regarding academic performance and progress. During his tenure, Elrod also oversaw the reorganization and staffing of Texas football's study table.

Elrod served as a graduate assistant in the University of Texas' Department of Kinesiology and Health while completing work toward a master's degree and also worked as an academic intern in Texas' athletic department for a year before being elevated to a fulltime position in 2001.

In addition to his experience in collegiate athletics, Elrod has worked as a history and physical education teacher at the middle school level in both the Granbury and Athens Independent School Districts in Texas.

In addition to his master's degree, Elrod also holds a bachelor's degree from Texas in kinesiology and is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in Higher Education from UT.
