WOW - WOW - WOW - WOW!

I am keeping that the headline this week, because it worked pretty well for us this past Saturday. If you were not at Bobcat Stadium on Saturday afternoon, you missed one of the truly special athletic moments in the history of this institution. The national television audience was treated to a thrilling 34-point rally by our Bobcats and also got a glimpse of how special our fan base can be. It was a true playoff setting, and that is a tribute to all of you that were in attendance.

ESPN2 was obviously impressed not only with our performance on the field, they enjoyed the big time atmosphere in San Marcos as well. We are the ONLY nationally televised game that is not a pay-per-view broadcast this weekend in I-AA, and that is very exciting for our program and our University.

So, with our first I-AA playoff game on our home field behind us, an ESPN2 national audience again tuning in, and a groundswell of support for the Bobcats, I keep my simple message the same:

BE AT BOBCAT STADIUM ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON!

How about that volleyball team?

We found out on Sunday that they will head to Austin for the second year in a row for their NCAA regional appearance. This time, however, the first round opponent is Hawaii.

The Rainbows are actually the no. 7 seed nationally, and are the top seed in the Austin regional, which includes Texas and LSU. That's pretty good company, and I am very proud of our Bobcats and Karen Chisum.

At 5 p.m. on Friday, we need you at Gregory Gym in Austin. For ticket information to the regional, stay tuned to our web site for updates.

While our football program savored its victory on Saturday evening, our women's basketball program put the finishing touches on its championship in the CenturyTel Classic at Strahan Colisuem. With wins over Prairie View and Mississippi Valley State, our Bobcats are 4-0 for the first time since 1992-93.

Our women are back home on Wednesday night against Huston-Tillotson at 7 p.m.

Congratulations Suzanne Fox and all of our student-athletes.

While our men's basketball team is still adjusting to its youth movement, we do have an exciting home game this Thursday night against SMU. If we hope to continue to attract these regional rivals to Strahan Coliseum (Houston and New Orleans have been here in recent years), then we need a good showing from our students and our community.

While you are making football and volleyball post-season plans this week, sprinkle in some hoops as we head into December.

If you are a Texas State student (or, former student, for that matter), then by the time you read this, the Thanksgiving break is officially over. As you begin to the countdown to finals, I strongly encourage you to be at Bobcat Stadium on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.

For those of you that were there against Sam Houston and Georgia Southern, you know that David Bailiff and his football team have something special going. Let's all be a part of continuing it for another week.

See you at the games -
