October is an exciting time for students, parents and alumni alike. This month we welcome parents to Texas State University on October 6th for Family Weekend. The Parents Association has an entire weekend full of fun activities for families including glass-bottom boat rides, campus tours, Family Round-Up in Sewell Park and Texas State Volleyball vs. SFA at 2 p.m. and Texas State Football vs. McNeese State at 6 p.m. For more information on Family weekend go to the Parents Association website www.txstate.edu/parents.

Also this month we are celebrating Homecoming. Homecoming festivities begin Saturday October 13th and continue through the entire week. Student Organizations, Greeks and Residence Halls will be teaming up to compete against each other in many different competitions and even have the chance to play flag football and basketball at Bobcat Stadium and Strahan Coliseum. Activities for Alumni begin Friday, August 19th and continue through the weekend. The homecoming football game is Saturday, October 20th vs. Southland Conference opponent Stephen F. Austin at 6 p.m. Make plans to be there as the 2007 Distinguished Alumni and Homecoming King and Queen will be announced. Please join us for all the homecoming activities as we celebrate the many years of being Bobcats. For more information about Homecoming please visit the Alumni Association website http://www.txstatealumni.org.

We have officially begun the "I-35 Maroon vs. Orange Rivalry Series" presented by IBC Bank between Texas State Athletic teams and Southland Conference neighbor to the south UTSA. The next rivalry event is on Oct. 11th as the Volleyball team heads to San Antonio to take on the Roadrunners. Women's soccer brings the rivalry series back to town on Oct. 21st. To follow the progress of the rivalry series check out the "I-35 Maroon vs. Orange Rivalry Series" page on our official website.

This year our student fans have been great! We love to see the students at all our events. The official student fan organization, The Loud Crowd, has been helping get students in the seats this year. The Loud Crowd has grown to over 250 members with a goal to create the best home field/court advantage in the Southland Conference. Not only is the Loud Crowd helping our student-athletes by attending games, they are also helping them in the classroom. This year half of the Loud Crowd dues collected go directly towards the Bobcat Club's student-athlete scholarship fund. The contributions made by the Loud Crowd this year have not gone unnoticed by our student-athletes or coaches. In fact, the Loud Crowd even caught the attention of Bobcat Club members John and Chloe Navarrette who graciously donated $1,000 to the Loud Crowd for their increasing support of Bobcat Athletics and the Bobcat Club. For information on joining the Loud Crowd visit their website http://www.theloudcrowd.org.
