    First Word with Larry Teis
    March 2008

The first word this month is Congratulations! And they are due to Head Coach Suzanne Fox and her Women's Basketball program for their 2008 Southland Conference Championship.

The Women's basketball program posted an astounding 14-2 SLC record this season earning them the Championship title. Additionally, Coach Fox received SLC Coach of the Year honors after finishing the regular season with her best record at Texas State (20-9/14-2) and reaching the 20-win mark for the first time in her 11 years in San Marcos. Texas State senior forward Joyce Ekworomadu took home Southland Conference Player of the Year honors and was also named to the All-SLC First Team for the first time in her career after a stellar season with the Bobcats. Senior Brooke DeGrate rounded out the award winners for the Bobcats with a selection to the All-SLC Third Team.

The Women's Basketball program has received a bid to the postseason Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). They will play Prairie View A&M in the first round at Strahan Coliseum. We wish them the best of luck in their postseason play and once again congratulate all the members of the 2007-2008 Bobcat Women's Basketball program.

Are you ready for some football? Spring football has begun in Bobcat Country as the team hit the field for 15 spring football practices, including three scrimmages. The spring drills will conclude at 6 p.m. on April 12th with the annual Maroon vs. Gold spring game at Bobcat Stadium. Free admission is offered to all fans wishing to get a sneak peak at the 2008 Bobcat football program. Fans will also be able to purchase their 2008 football season tickets and select-a-seat at the game. If you can't make it to the game, but are still interested in football season tickets visit www.txstatebobcats.com or call 800-982-2386.

The Bobcat Kids Club will also host their annual Time Warner Cable Bobcat Kids Club Clinic at Bobcat Stadium on April 12th. All future Bobcats kindergarten through 6th grade are invited to attend the clinic. Registration is free and begins at 4 p.m. There will be lots of goodies for the kids provided by Texas Roadhouse. The clinic will end at 5:15 p.m. shortly before the Maroon vs. Gold spring game.

We hope that nice weather this spring will encourage you to come out and enjoy our spring sports. We have several fun events planned at our sports this month, including:

Greek Day & IFC Homerun Derby: Baseball vs. Texas A&M-Corpus
    Christi - April 6th at 1 p.m.

Little League Day: Softball vs. Northwestern State - April 13th at 12 p.m.

    Bobcat Pride Day: Tennis vs. Texas-Arlington - April 19th at 2 p.m.

Kids Day at Bobcat Field: Baseball vs. Central Arkansas - April 20th at 1 p.m.

Also this month, we will host our annual spring "T"-Association Weekend on April 12-13th. During this weekend, we invite all athletic alumni to return to San Marcos to recognize and celebrate the 2007 letter winners. Events include: the spring meeting, the "T"-Association Letter Winners Lunch, the Maroon vs. Gold spring game and the Bobcat Softball series vs. Northwestern State. For more information regarding "T"-Association Weekend please contact Don Coryell at 512-245-2114.

Finally, we are excited to unveil a newly designed athletic website this month. Fans visiting txstatebobcats.com will now experience a more interactive and user-friendly site with tons of content for all of our Bobcat fans. Working with CBS affiliate CSTV to redesign has allowed us offer a fresh, sharp look for the department as we continue to strive for the best at Texas State. I hope all of our fans will visit txstatebobcats.com regularly for scores, news, highlights and more.
