Q & A: During the upcoming basketball season will us students have our own designated section where we can all sit together and be loud? I feel it is something that is really missing from Strahan. The Loud Crowd and the Fanatics could easily lead the student section in rowdiness and would love to see each of them have their own reserved section during home games. Maybe have a student entrance during home games where ID holding students have to go in to get in for free and then have them filtered into the student section rather than pick and choose. Henry in San Marcos Henry, I think you bring forth some terrific ideas, and I know our marketing staff has put an emphasis on basketball marketing for 2005-2006. Our Associate Athletics Director over marketing, Don Coryell, has mobilized a tremendous volunteer base and is in the process of hiring a new director of marketing, so these ideas will certainly receive the highest of consideration as we prepare for the upcoming season. As a matter of fact, I know Don and his staff have had initial meetings with the Loud Crowd discussing this very issue. For anyone interested in volunteering to help out with marketing this year, please contact Don at dc32@txstate.edu.
Larry, I recently read that the NCAA has decided to permanently add a 12th game to Division I-A football schedules, and that games verse Division I-AA opponents will count towards their bowl eligibility. Will this rule change help us cash in and further our chances in becoming a Division I-A program? How will this affect our scheduling philosophy? Go Bobcats, Scott in Houston You ask a great question, Scott. What the 12 game schedule does immediately for us is open up opportunities to schedule some regional Division I opponents and assemble an attractive schedule for our fan base. As far as our "chances" of becoming a Division I program, we are very happy with the competitive opportunities that the Southland Conference provides us. I think that the whole concept of I-AA football will receive a major analysis in the coming months, and this could lead to some significant changes in the landscape of college football as we know it. Stay tuned and thanks for your support!
In looking ahead on our fall schedules, do we know yet what impact Hurricane Katrina will have on our conference rivals in Louisiana? Obviously, athletics is not the first priority right now for them, but I just thought I would ask. Erik in Houston Like all of our counterparts in the Southland Conference and around the country, our thoughts and prayers are with all of those affected by the devastating storm. Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana will resume classes on September 6th at the earliest, so there is really no way at this point to determine anything past Labor Day weekend. Both of those institutions, along with several others, have cancelled their games for this coming weekend (September 3). Again, please keep these folks in your thoughts and prayers as they recover from Katrina. |
