San Antonio, Texas- - The Texas State men's and women's track and field teams won eight events at the UTSA Relays that were held at the Blossom Athletic Complex.

Danete Wright won the women's heptathlon with 4,430 points. Her teammate, Veronica Rodriguez, was the runner-up with 4, 326 points and Katherine Evans finished in fourth place with 4,188 points.

Jiovanna Martinez won the women's shot put with a throw of 11.85 meters and edged teammate Kayla Smith by eight centimeters.

Katy Hanie won the women's discus with a throw of 45.32 meters, while Martinez finished in second place with a discus throw of 43.50 meters. Kelli VanVleet finished in fourth place with a throw of 38.04 meters after she won the women's javelin with a throw of 38.27 meters.

Rebekah Vickers won the women's pole vault after she cleared a career-best 3.85 meters for the second straight week. Brooklyn Dickson was the runner-up after clearing 3.25 meters.

Kemuel Morales won the men's shot put with a mark of 16.73 meters. Luke Johnson of UTSA was the runner-up with a put of 16.40 meters, while Texas State's Andy Ysebaert was third with a throw of 16.33 meters.

Iris Darrington was the top collegian in the women's 100-meter dash with a wind-aided time of 12.49 seconds. Ashley Austin also had the fourth fastest time of 12.93 seconds. La Tashia Kerr, who was running unattached, won the race in a wind-aided 12.30 seconds.

Adam Higginbotham was the runner-up in the men's 100-meter dash with a legal time of 10.96 seconds. Steven Brown of UTSA won the event in 10.58 seconds.

 

 

Catis Spunde won the men's 400-meter hurdles race with a time of 51.95 seconds.

In the women's 400-meter hurdles race, Texas State had five of the top six finishers. UTSA's Jessica Jones won the race in 1:02.72. Mary Beth O'Conner was the runner-up in 1:03.85, while Liat Anay was third in 1:05.77. Kristina Viniar finished in fourth place with 1:06.64, while Cara Forrest had the fifth-fastest time with 1:08.56, and Taylor Hubbard was sixth in 1:09.18.

Clay Holland had the third fastest times in the in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a wind-aided time of 14.76 seconds.

Adam Higginbotham was third in the in the preliminary rounds of the men's 100-meter dash with a windy 10.87 seconds. Zachary Gee and Jeffery Dean also qualified for Saturday's final.

Gatis Spunde won the men's 400-meter hurdles race with a time of 51.95 seconds.

Texas State best showing in the relay races came in the men's 4x200-meter relay race, when the Bobcats finished second in the 4x200-meter relay race with 1:27.65. Southwest Christian won the relay in 1:26.27.

Texas State will continue its outdoor schedule on March 22, when the Bobcats travel to the Texas Invitational.
