Austin, Texas- - Sara Olayiwola won the women's long jump and Kemuel Morales won the men's shot put to lead the Texas State men's and women's track and field teams at the Texas Invitational on the Michael Myers Track Saturday afternoon.

Olayiwola won the event after she recorded a legal jump of 5.72 meters in her final three attempts to win the long jump by nine centimeters over teammate Sonetria Mayfield, who was the runner-up with a wind-aided leap of 5.63 meters. Alaysha Ford was the third-place finisher with a jump of 5.29 meters and Tamequa Poole finished in fourth place with a mark of 5.23 meters.

Morales won the men's shot put after he recorded a mark of 16.91 meters to beat Hickel Woolery of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, who finished in second place with a mark of 16.49 meters.

In addition, Valerie Hancock was the runner-up in the women's high jump after clearing 1.70 meters, and Eric Thomas had the best collegiate mark in the men's long jump with a legal leap of 6.79 meters. Gatis Spunde finished in second place with a time of 52.07 seconds in the men's 400-meter hurdles.

Katie Hanie finished third in the women's discus with a throw of 47.50 meters, while Texas State's Kevin Aje, Jeffery Dean, Erroll Harris and Adam Higginbotham combined for a third place finish in the men's 4x400-meter relay with a season-best time of 3:12.82.

Texas State will have split squads competing at the Bobby Lane Invitiational in Arlington, Texas on March 29 and at the Rice Bayou Classic in Houston on March 28-29 before returning to Austin for the Texas Relays on April 2-6.
