Texas State Men's Track and Field Team Finishes In Seventh Place At The Vidtor Lopez Rice Bayou Classic
March 29, 2008 Houston- - In their first team scored meet of the season, the Texas State men's and women's track and field teams registered seventh-place and eight-place finishes, respectively, at the Victor Lopez Rice Bayou Classic on Saturday at the Rice Track and Field Stadium. The men's team won two field events and finished the meet with 42 points, while the women's team scored 30 points at the meet. Kemuel Morales, Andy Ysebaert and Jonathan Ochoa combined to score 24 points for the Bobcats. Morales scored 10 points when he won the men's shot put with a mark of 17.77 meters. Ysebaert added one point with an eighth-place showing with a throw of 15.30 meters in the shot put. He came back to score three points in the men's discus with a throw of 45.66 meters. Oacha scored 10 points after winning the men's javelin with a throw of 59.70 meters. Ikenna Obonna tallied another six points in the men's triple jump with a third-place finish after posting a leap of 15.02 meters. Kammer Gerry, Michael Webley, Justin Longoria and Jeffery Dean combined for a fourth-place finish with a season-best time of 3:18.06 to score five points. Longoria also finished in ninth place with a time of 49.43 seconds in the men's 400-meter dash. In the women's division, Iris Darrington scored eight points in the women's 200-meter dash after she registered a second-place time of 24.78 seconds while running into a slight (-0.6) headwind. Darrington also finished in ninth place with a time of 12.40 seconds in the 100-meter dash.
Crystyne Hatfield and Cara Forrest combined to score eight points in the women's 400-meter hurdles. Hatfield scored five points with a fourth-place finish in a time of 1:05.07. Forrest completed the race in 1:05.43 to finish in sixth place and score two more points.
Amanda McKinney scored one point when she finished eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:00.40. Alaysha Ford added four points in the women's triple jump after she finished in fifth place with a leap of 11.31 meters. In the women's shot put, Kayla Smith also finished in eight place and scored one point with a mark of 12.25 meters. Jiovanna Martinez added eight points in the women's discus and hammer. Martinez had a fourth place showing in the women's discus to score five points with a throw of 43.00 meters. She also posted a sixth-place finish in the women's hammer to scored three points with a throw of 45.75 meters. Both teams will return to action next week when they travel to Austin, Texas and compete in the Texas Relays on April 2-5. |
