Texas State Track And Field Teams Travel To UTSA Relays

San Antonio, Texas - The Texas State men's and women's track and field teams will continue their 2008 outdoor schedule when the Bobcats travel to San Antonio, Texas and compete in the UTSA Relays on Friday and Saturday, March 14 and 15. Texas State will be competing against teams from UT-San Antonio, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Sul Ross State, Texas A&M-Kingsville and Trinity University. The Bobcats enter the meet after opening the 2008 outdoor season after winning 10 different events at the Texas State Open on Mar. 7. Rebekah Vickers and Kemuel Morales also qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships at the Texas State Open. Vickers won the women's pole vault after clearing a career-best 3.85 meters and Morales won the men's shot put with a toss of 16.80 meters. He also finished fifth in the men's discus with a throw of 46.45 meters. Texas State also had the top two finishers in the men's long jump as Jonathan Williams won the event with a leap of 6.83 meters. Valerie Hancock won the women's high jump after clearing 1.70 meters, five centimeters shy of the regional qualifying mark. Giovanna Martinez won the women's hammer with a throw of 46.39 meters, while Kelli Van Vleet won the javelin with mark of 40.16 meters. In the running events, Iris Darrington won the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 24.74 seconds after finishing third in the 100 meters in 12.32 seconds. Liat Anay won the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.84 and teamed with Amanda Rodriguez, Cara Forrest and Mary Beth O'Conner to win the women's 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:58.88.
Texas State also won the men's 4x400-meter relay in the final event of the day as Adam Higginbotham, Justin Longoria, Gerry Harris and Gerry Kammer combined for a time of 3:16.57. Harris had the fastest leg for the Bobcats with a time of 47.1 seconds. |
