Katya Kostetskaya was Texas State's top finisher at the Southland Conference Cross Country Championship ran in Corpus Christi Saturday. Kostetskaya placed 20th to lead the Bobcat women to a fourth-place finish.

CORPUS CHRISIT - Texas State All-America mid-distance runner Katya Kostetskaya was the Bobcats' leading finisher, posting a 20th place finish to lead the `Cats to a fourth-place finish at the Southland Conference Championships run Saturday. Texas State's men placed eighth at the meet which was hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Kostetskaya led a foursome of Bobcat women who finished in the Top 25. The senior from St. Petersburg, Russia, clocked a time of 22:18.7. Heather Bullin was 21st in a time of 22:24.7 and Samatha Evola placed 22nd in a time of 22:25.7. Whitney Perkins placed 25th overall in a time of 22:29.7 on the 6K course.

Texas State's men were led by freshman Michael Richards who clocked a time of 26.47 on the 8K course to place 30th overall.

Despite having the top two finishers, Lamar was the team runner-up to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the women's event. The Islanders scored 48 points to capture the title while Lamar scored 52. Stephen F. Austin was third with 98 points while Texas State scored 111 points in its fourth-place effort.

Lamar senior Clerc Koenck crossed the finish line first in a time of 20:48.1 just ahead of Renee Graham (21:06.0).

Lamar's men had four runners place in the top 10 and scored 37 points to beat second-place Texas A&M-Corpus Christi by seven points.

Islander junior Shadrack Songok won the individual championship in a time of 24:05, ahead of Lamar sophomore Francis Kasagule who was second in a time of 24:13.
