Ekworomadu To Compete In ESPN's Women's Three-Point Contest

 
 
 

 
Jocy Ekworomadu was selected to compete in the ESPN 20th Annual Women's Three-Point Shooting Contest at the NCAA Final Four in San Antonio.

San Marcos, Texas - Texas State senior guard Joyce Ekworomadu is one of seven women's basketball players from across the country selected to participate in ESPN's 20th Annual Women's Three-Point Shooting Contest on April 3. The contest will be held at 6:30 p.m. in Greehey Arena on the campus of St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with tickets to the event can be purchased for $5-10 through Ticketmaster (1.866.666.8932) or the www.TICKETMASTER.com web site.

"It's an honor to be chosen as one of eight women from across the country," Ekworomadu said. "I'm going to try to represent Texas State the best I can and hopefully put us on the map. I'm also representing all the Mid-Majors schools from across the nation who don't get as much publicity or exposure."

The women's three-point shooting contest is part of ESPN's Slam Dunk and Three-Point Championships in which 24 seniors are invited to compete. There are eight senior competing in each of the women's three-point shooting, men's three-point shooting and men's slam dunk contests that are held each year in the host city for the NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four.

Ekworomadu, who was the Southland Conference Player of the Year as a senior, ranked seventh nationally in three-point percentage with 43.6 and 26th in three-point field goals made per game with 2.6 per contest. "It's definitely a strength for me and something I've worked on as a player to improve upon in order to become a more versatile player," Ekworomadu added.

She will be competing against Allie Quigley of DePaul, Chioma Nnamaka of Georgia Tech, Marscilla Packer of Ohio State, Angela Tisdale of Baylor, Meg Bulger of West Virginia and Maurita Reid of Miami (Fla.). The men's three-point shooting contest includes Drew Neitzel of Michigan State, Chris Lofton of Tennessee, Butler's AJ Graves, Vanderbilt's Shan Foster, Derrick Low of Washington State, Jamar Butler of Ohio State, Brian Roberts of Dayton and Utah State's Jaycee Carroll.

 

 

The slam dunk contest will feature Deron Washington of Virginia Tech, James Gist of Maryland, JR Giddens of New Mexico, Georgetown's Patrick Ewing, Jr., Brian Randall of Illinois and Joey Dorsey of Memphis.

The contests will be televised on ESPN and airs 8-10 p.m. (CST).
