Honoring The 2006 Bobcat Soccer Senior Class
Nov. 1, 2006 The 2006 Texas State women's soccer team featured one of the largest senior classes in Bobcat history. Additionally, every senior was a member of the 2004 soccer team, the last Texas State team to win the Southland Conference Tournament and earn a spot in the NCAA Women's College Cup. With the 2006 Southland Conference Tournament beginning Thursday in San Marcos, here is a look at the accomplishments of the nine players wearing the maroon and white for one final time. One of four Bobcats named to the 2006 preseason All-SLC second team, Brittany Beltramini has seen the majority of time in goal this season trying to keep opponents off the scoreboard, successfully doing so in three games and going a stretch of 332 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal. On the season Beltramini is 4-6-1 with a 1.84 goals against average and .757 save percentage. For her career she has a 2.08 goals against average, allowing 103 goals in nearly 4,500 minutes. In 2004 she logged more minutes in goal than anyone in the Southland, a stunning 2,062. Her career record stands at 22-23-2 with six career shutouts. Beltramini, a Keller, Texas, native, is also expecting to earn a degree in childhood education. This season, Bastrop, Texas, native Amy Benton has played in 13 games, starting three, and has recorded one assist after missing time due to injury. For her career Benton has started 42 of the 58 games she has played in and has netted four goals and six assists. Benton is expecting to earn her degree in anthropology. A 2006 preseason All-Southland Conference second team selection, Ashley Brown was also named to the 2004 and 2005 Academic All-SLC first teams. This season the Cedar Park, Texas, native and Bobcat co-captain has appeared in all 19 games, starting 18, and has one assist. For her career she has played in 77 games with 54 starts and recorded one goal and two assists while helping to anchor the midfield and defense. She is expected to earn her degree in business finance. A perennial All-Southland Conference selection, Kristy Collison is the lone Texas State player on the 2006 All-SLC first team. The Bobcat co-captain was also a member of both the 2003 and 2005 All-SLC second teams as well as a preseason All-SLC second team selection in 2004 and a preseason All-SLC first team selection this season. She also earned academic All-SLC first team honors in 2005. This season she has started all 19 games for the Bobcats, recording one goal and one assist. For her career she has started all 68 games she has played in, and has two goals and five assists as a Bobcat while helping lead the Texas State defense. She is also expected to earn her degree in radiation therapy with a minor in health information management. Elyse Ehlinger scored her lone goal this year against Houston and has also chipped in two assists while starting 10 of the 18 games played in. For her career she has appeared in 67 games with 12 starts, recording three goals and four assists. Ehlinger, originally from Plano, Texas, is a key component of the Bobcat midfield who is expected to graduate with a degree in education. A member of the 2003 All-SLC second team as well as a 2004 and 2005 preseason All-SLC first team selection, Natalie Holder has scored 16 goals in her career with 15 assists while starting in 54 of 82 games played. Her total of 82 appearances currently ranks in the top three among all Bobcat soccer players. The Leander, Texas, native is expecting to graduate with a degree in education. A two-year member of the Bobcats after transferring from Schreiner University, Paige Perriraz saw the majority of time in goal for Texas State in 2005, finishing third in the Southland in saves per game with 5.67 and fourth in total saves with 85. The senior from Robstown, Texas, also went 6-3 with one shutout. This season she has been hampered by injuries, but has still seen action in five contests. For her career she has a 2.01 goals against average. Perriraz is also expecting a degree in exercise and sports science with an emphasis in pre-physical therapy. A fifth-year senior from Arlington, Texas, Kim Phillips has been recognized numerous times as one of the Southland's best. In 2003 she was an All-SLC honorable mention and in 2004 was a preseason All-SLC second-teamer before suffering an ACL injury. She battled back though, receiving All-SLC first team honors in 2005 after being a preseason second-teamer that year. This season, Phillips was a preseason All-Southland first team selection and lived up to that billing by leading the team in goals scored and total points, all while moving from defense to playing exclusively at forward. Her seven goals and 15 total points in 19 games earned her a place on the 2006 All-Southland Second Team. She is currently the reigning Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her three goals last Sunday against Nicholls State. For her career Phillips has nine goals and two assists in 73 games, 53 of which were starts. She is also expected to earn her degree in biology. A 2006 Preseason All-SLC Second Team member, Delayna Spivey has been a physical force on the field for Texas State from her midfielder position. This season she is third on the team in both goals and points, scoring four times and adding one assist for nine total points in 19 contests, including 16 starts. Those numbers earned Spivey All-SLC honorable mention honors this season. For her career she has totaled 12 goals and seven assists in 80 games played and has earned the starting nod in 58 of those games. She is expected to earn a degree in exercise and sports management with a minor in biology.
