SAN MARCOS - Texas State soccer returns home for its final weekend of scheduled SLC action to host the Cowgirls of McNeese State after a weekend of road contests, still vying for a seat in the Southland Conference Championship Tournament.

The Bobcats took on Northwestern State Friday, playing to a 3-3 tie, and the Sugar Bears of Central Arkansas in a 1-0 dropped decision. Friday's game is slated for a 7 p.m. start at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

The Cowgirls will be a tough opponent for the Bobcats defensively, having held four of their SLC opponents scoreless and limiting the others to just four goals. In their weekend contests, McNeese shut out Stephen F. Austin 1-0 on Friday and posted a 4-2 win over Sam Houston State on Sunday.

The Cowgirls are currently in a three-way tie for first place with Stephen F. Austin and Texas - San Antonio. Defender Renee Landers and goalie Shelby Money both took Southland Player of the Week honors for their weekend performances. Money was credited with both victories, tallying 13 saves in the two contests.

Offensively, Texas State trails the Cowgirls by just one goal, recording 12 in its seven SLC competitions this season. Freshman Britney Curry leads the Bobcats with six goals, placing her in a three-way first place league standing and her 13 career points place her in a three-way second place tie. Andrea Seledee leads the team in assists with three and adds two goals to her resume. Senior Jerelyn Lemmie follows her in point totals with three goals and one assist.

Bobcat goalie Amanda Byrd currently sits one spot ahead of McNeese State's Money with 29 total saves. In over 550 minutes of league action she has allowed just seven goals. Byrd's 1.14 goals against average place her 4th in the Southland Conference.

This is the ninth regular season meeting between the Bobcats and Cowgirls, with Texas State leading the series 6-2. In the 2006 season, the `Cats dropped both regular and post-season decisions 0-1 to the Cowgirls.

The top six SLC teams will move on to play in the Southland Championship Tournament hosted by Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La. on Nov. 8-11. The 'Cats 2-3-2 conference record places them seventh in league action.
