Softball Heads to No. 18 Baylor

SAN MARCOS - The Texas State softball team looks for its second win over a Big 12 opponent in as many weeks when the Bobcats (20-11) travel to Waco to face No. 18 Baylor (18-8) Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The game also marks the beginning of a four-game break from Southland Conference opponents that includes a weekend series at home against New Mexico. Katie Garnett and Ragan Blake lead the Bobcats into Tuesday night as one of the top pitching combos in the Southland. Garnett ranks among the conference leaders in wins and ERA, boasting a 10-3 record and 2.04 ERA. Blake stands at 8-8 and ranks second in the SLC in strikeouts with 107 in 103.2 innings while opponents hit .205 off her. Offensively, Alex Newton and Ryan Kos lead a balanced attack. Newton's .330 average leads three players batting over .320 for Texas State while Kos leads the team in RBIs with 21 and has 10 extra-base hits on the year. As a team Texas State has drawn an SLC-best 107 walks and has a .348 team on-base percentage. Baylor is led by Jordan Daniels and Brette Reagan at the plate. Daniels leads the Bears with a .417 average and six home runs while ranking second in RBIs with 22. Reagan leads Baylor with 26 RBIs and is one of four players batting over .400. Kirsten Shortridge helps out at the plate and in the circle, scoring 21 runs to go along with a team-high 34 hits and .415 average. She is also 4-2 with a 2.62 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 48 innings pitched. Jenny Isham anchors the Baylor pitching staff, posting a 10-2 record and 1.91 ERA in 58.2 innings, striking out 36.
