Women's Tennis Hands Cal State-Fullerton 6-1 Loss

FULLERTON - Texas State evened its 2008 record at 5-5 with a 6-1 win over Cal State-Fullerton (2-10) to open its spring break trip to California. Andrea Giraldo and Rabea Hartmann teamed to win the No. 1 doubles slot before Lainy Chafitz and Ashley Ellis clinched the opening point with an 8-5 win. Giraldo and Hartmann continued their success in singles play by each posting straight set victories. Giraldo took the No. 1 singles point with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Erin Wisener while Hartmann made it 3-0 with a 7-6, 6-4 win at the No. 2 position over Shelly Injejikian. Fullerton's Karina Akhmedova posted the Titans' lone singles victory at the No. 3 spot, leading Ellis one set to none before Ellis retired from the match with a two-games-to-none lead in the second set. The Bobcats won four of their five singles matches in straight sets as Ali Gulida won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 and Mackenzie Farmer won the No. 6 point 6-4, 6-1. Jennifer Nowland's match in the No. 5 spot was the only win for the 'Cats not in straight sets, going to a tiebreaker that Nowland won to take the match 7-5, 3-6 (11-9). NCAA WOMEN'S TENNIS SINGLES
