The Middle Block with Emily Jones - Nov. 12
Nov. 12, 2007
The regular season is officially over. Now all we have to concentrate on is the Southland Conference Tournament! We started off the week with a great win over Pan-Am on Tuesday. It was senior night, which was sad, but I'm excited for Brandy to start her new life. We swept UTPA in three and had our last "password" after the game. Overall it was just a great night. Thursday we left for Huntsville. We woke up Friday, had some breakfast in the hotel, and shopped around for a few minutes in the three-shop mall there in town. Sam Houston was hosting a regional tournament for the high school state playoffs all day on Friday, so our game was pushed back a little. We weren't too concerned, though, as we had plenty of warm-up games to play outside before hit-around. (P.S. I am the champion of Down by the Banks of the Hanky Panky.) The game finally started around 8 o'clock. After we felt out the Bearkats in game one in a close loss, we came back and won the next three pretty easily, and had a lot of fun doing it! Friday night was late. We made it to the hotel in Nacogdoches around 1 a.m. and went straight to bed. Saturday morning we woke up to another hotel breakfast and watched video on SFA afterward. Then we went to a yummy Italian place for lunch, and that was the end of our fun for the weekend. For some reason, we did not show up to play SFA. I'm not sure if it was the heat that we practiced through in hit-around or what caused the slow start, but we were down 11-3 in the beginning of all three games. We did make a comeback in games one and three, but couldn't get past 28 points in either game. The good news is that we can put the loss behind us and focus on the Southland Conference Tournament coming up this weekend in San Antonio. Our first match is Friday at 11 a.m. against McNeese State, who beat us in the regular season. I am hoping that this will be the best week in practice that we've had all season, and if everyone is on the same page next weekend, we can beat anybody. I truly believe it.
Anyway, that's all I've got. And as I said before we left for Rhode Island, see you next week, hopefully with a tournament championship under my belt, but this time with a pretty ring to show for it! :)
